About

Hi,
I am Nayana Nair. I’m 30. Just a crazy person who has tons of things to talk about, but they are just a bunch of unorganized thoughts (sadly).
I like to talk a lot, to the extent that every conversation of mine turns into a monologue. But I am socially awkward.
So I decided I should start writing a blog rather than tiring myself out by trying to engage someone in a conversation they are not interested in.
I’m passionate about music, psychology and literature. My love for stories translates not only to literature, but also to my love for movies, series, anime (but I watch things randomly, so probably have not seen any “must-watch” ones). I have a moderate interest in science (it is bound to be since I majored in engineering). I love BTS (that’s a K-pop band, really talented and really inspiring, in case you don’t know. ARMY since 2016).
I always wanted to be a writer (and also a teacher). But since I don’t think I have the skills required, this blog is just an attempt of mine at becoming the writer I always wanted to be. Blogging for few years, I have realized I am more into poetry (although, I am not sure that I am good enough to be labelled as a poet). I hope I realize more about myself through writing.

I am not good at introducing myself, at all. So if you want to know more about me, you can go through these posts, which more or less gives a better information about who I am than this About page.

Thanks for dropping by!! Hope I didn’t disappoint. πŸ™‚

You can also find my work on Hello Poetry, Spillwords, Commaful, The Drabble Quaterly, and in poetry anthology – SMITTEN, As the World Burns, The Kali Project, and Through The Looking Glass: Reflecting on Madness and Chaos Within.

Note: None of the images on this blog are mine.

  11. Hi Nayana! I’m so glad that I discovered you! Actually, I noticed your Gravatar pic first..It’s Kahoko from La corda d’oro, one of my favorite manga/anime..Do you, by any chance, know La corda and love it too?
You have a wonderful blog..You definitely have the skills required to be a writer! And yes, I’ve heard of BTS, although I’ve never listened to their songs..But I’m a bit into kpop, and usually listen to EXO and SHINee.
    Love,
    Surya😊
P.S : I’m a malayali tooπŸ˜„..I’ll be happy if you visit my blog..And, could you suggest a super cool BTS song for me to try?

    1. Nayana Nair says:

      Hi Surya πŸ™‚
So so glad to meet you. You can’t imagine how glad I am. Yes, I love La Corda, one of my favourites. My favourite character of course is Kahoko..(she motivates me to work hard for things I am passionate about even if I don’t think I have talent for that…like she worked hard for music for the love of it) and I like Azuma too (he he :-))
I have heard songs of EXO too…the ones I have heard were super cool.
As far as BTS is concerned, I am big fan of theirs..so suggesting one song is really tough. But I think you should try “Spring Day” , “I need u” to begin with . “Fire” is also one of their hype song.
Aww…I will go crazy..I want to list all songs πŸ™‚ he he
Do try them out and let me know whether you liked them.
Apart from BTS , I like EXO, Super Junior, iKON, Seventeen, Girls Generation, and mang more….
So happy…meeting a La Corda fan for first time πŸ™‚
So glad you liked my blog πŸ™‚
Will be happy to visit your blog πŸ™‚
Looking forward to hearing from you soon πŸ™‚

      1. Wow…Me too! I’m so excited to have found another La corda fan! πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜Š Yeah…I like Kahoko a lot, and I love Azuma too!😍
Thank you so much for the recommendations..I’ll definitely try them all out and let you know.
It was my pleasure to visit your blog. Happy Blogging! πŸ˜„

    2. Nayana Nair says:

Since I am getting restless without mentioning some more songs of BTS (fangirl issues) please bear with me

Some other songs that I can’t help but mention are “Dope”, ” Blood Sweat and Tears”, “Save Me” , “Run”, ” Not Today “……(many more..but if I mention them you may think I am trying to push you too hard into liking BTS he he πŸ™‚ )

      He he…sorry…:-)

      1. No problem at all! I understand the ‘fangirl’ part..😊Thank you again..and I’ll listen to them for sure!

  29. MOMENTS says:

Dear Nayana, thank you so much for the follow. I really appreciate this! Of course you are a poet. If any person starts to write poems she or he is already a poet by defnition, which obviously does not imply that that person will automatically become a major poet like T.S.Eliot, William Shakespeare, etc. Will get to your poems with pleasure. I wonder at these words here: “I always wanted to be a writer (and also a teacher). But since I don’t think I have the skills required, this blog is just an attempt of mine at becoming the writer I always wanted to be.”
Why do you say you don’t think you have the skills required to become a teacher? (BTW, I am a teacher who writes poems in my free time)

    1. Nayana Nair says:

Hi dear πŸ™‚ Thanks a lot for your kind words.
I guess even though I write, I can never know if I am actually writing well. I do not think just scribbling a set of words makes it poetry. And I am not sure if my writing has the substance that converts plain words into poem. It may be self-doubt, impostor syndrome or simple lack of confidence, but I feel I am lacking in many ways. But since they are just doubts that eat me away, till they are proven to be truth, I think I can continue to write hoping to become better than I am.

      1. MOMENTS says:

Sure, just keep writing. I know about the lack of confidence and self-doubt. These are my problems too. Here is a poem I wrote for all of us: https://momentsbloc.wordpress.com/2018/10/15/confidence-2/

  34. Thank you for a fascinating “About” page, Nayana. You remind me a bit of my older bro whose undergrad degrees were in civil engineering and English Lit. I don’t suppose your engineering degree was in civil, was it?

Also, I’m curious, if you were to teach, what level would you teach at?

    1. Nayana Nair says:

Nope, my undergrad degree is in Electronics and Communication Engineering.
English Lit and Civil Engineering sound interesting though πŸ™‚
If I were to teach I would like to teach middle school or high school kids probably. (Maybe because of their impressionable minds and how they are not so much set in their way of thinking that I believe they will be more receptive. Just my opinion though. Not based on any facts.)

      1. If you were to teach, what subjects would you most want to teach

So far as I can see, you’re right about open-mindedness. I think children will swallow anything you tell them. Teens and early twenty-somethings will often evaluate what you tell them. By it’s a real chore to get people my own age to think, Nayana.

I’ve noticed I am just as smart as my young friends, much more experienced, sometimes wiser, but so seldom as open to thinking about new ideas. I don’t do it with ease and enthusiasm like they do. I have to work at it — and often quite hard.

Could be there’s a physiological reason for how minds tend to close with age.

May I ask why you believe you would not be good at teaching?

      2. Nayana Nair says:

I think as long as it is for middle or high school syllabus, I can teach almost any subject (except physical education πŸ™‚ ) The thing is when I have to teach someone something, even if it is something I do not necessarily like that much, I am able to understand it enough that I can teach it. I just need a bit of preparation time that’s it. When I myself was in school, there were may subject that I didn’t like much. But now that I’ve grown up, I only have a fondness for those days when I could get to learn more.
I think with age, we get set in our way of living and thinking. Maybe that is how nature works. I think it is same for me, it is difficult to be open-minded, almost something that I have put effort. But I think as long as I have the will to put that effort to understand something or someone, it is fine.
Why I think I would be good at teaching? I have taught my younger sister from when she was small. I have also taught my friends when they wanted help understanding stuff. I enjoyed teaching them and even they were able to understand things they were not able. I have respect for all the subjects, even when I do not like them. I think that is something that we need to pass on anyone we are teaching. To make them understand the importance of what they are learning. That even if they may not have interest in it, it is important.

      3. Do you think you will ever realize your desire to teach professionally? I would hope so.

You make some good points about “getting set in our ways”. I also think that a bit of emotional pain can be felt if and when we change a key belief. Perhaps that’s enough to discourage us.

Your desire to teach resonates with me. Were it not for a few twists of fate, I might be an university professor today. But if so, I would be professor who wanted to teach high school. That is, I would have begun my career wanting to teach uni students, but ended it wanting to teach more open minded HS students.

      4. Nayana Nair says:

I do not think I would be able to become a teacher professionally.
I have already done B.Tech which no one actually wants for high school teacher, they mostly want a degree in science or arts etc. The only option I have of teaching is to do my masters and phd in enginnering and teach college students which I am not that enthusiastic about it.
Other than that I am already into some other profession, I am a technical writer for software and all (I know it is weird that being a technical writer, my writing is full of typos and act as if grammar doesn’t exist; that is because in my own writing I do not want to be much conscious of such things. doing that for a living is more than enough . πŸ™‚ )
So yeah teaching is now out of question. I have left my hope on that. I do not have a habit of regretting things much. I try to look forward as much as I can and try to find something else I can be good in. I started writing after my teacher dream became impossible. So yeah, something good came out of that.
So what did you end up becoming instead of being a teacher? And what were these twists in fate that changed your life (only if you want to share, you can always ignore such questions of mine, if I am prying too much)

      5. I don’t mind answering your questions and telling you what I’m up to these days, but it would be better suited to an email than to a public forum. Do you feel like contacting me at paul _ sunstone @ q . com ? I think you’ll be intrigued by my current project — the one that I seem these days to be working at 24/7. It’s quite an adventure.

Hi there and thanks for visiting my blog and all the ‘likes’.
You sound a bit like my 24 year old daughter who is also socially awkward and loves a monologue πŸ˜‰ i’ve heard of BTS because of her and you’ve picked the sort of avatar she would go for herself if she ever gets round to starting a blog which I’m encouraging her to do because she also writes poetry.
I must show her your blog – it might inspire her.

    1. Nayana Nair says:

Really loved your blog πŸ™‚ So it was my pleasure πŸ™‚

  42. Don’t know how else to write to you so I’ll just write here instead. You’re like the biggest fan of my blog haha, thank you! It’s hard for me to write anything on the blog because I don’t know what to say or if it’s even worth saying. But you seem to think so, so thank you for reading 😊

    1. Nayana Nair says:

I really admire your work. Something about what you write and how you write, your words connect with me. I feel an ease, a sort of understanding, being on the same page…that sort of feeling.
Please don’t be doubtful about your work. Do continue to write. I can assure you that your voice and your thoughts, their rawness and sincerity is something that is rare to find. Your work is wonderful.
From my own personal experience, I would suggest writing for yourself. There have been times in the beginning when I blogged and had same questions/doubts as you. Though it is easy to say “to write for oneself” but we all want an acknowledgement in some form, it is difficult to continue without that sometimes. An acknowledgement that our words, the heart we pour into paper matters to someone else. I hope in my own small way I can continue to be something similar to that acknowledgement. I hope you gain some strength by my small support.

I appreciate that you wrote to me.
I hope to read a lot of your work in future.
Have an awesome day ahead. πŸ™‚ πŸ˜€

I’m so surprised that anyone would like my writing as you seem to do, but to see that you like it so much I feel that I might be onto something. Thank you again! 😊

      2. I don’t know if you remember me but I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been gone for a long while, and I deleted all my poems, but now I’m back! These words of yours might have been one reason for it because I always thought of this comment even though I stopped writing and erased everything. This comment was always in the back of my head. So thank you for your kind words!

        Hi Andreas πŸ™‚
I do in fact remember you and I remember your good work as well. πŸ™‚ I occasionally did check out your blog and realized that the poems have been either deleted or made private. I was sort of disheartened. But I hoped that it was just the case where people create a new blog somewhere and I assumed I just missed the notice. πŸ™‚ But I had sincerely hoped whatever has happened and whatever the reason that you do well in life and continue to write poems even if they are not in public view. So it makes me really happy to see that you are back. πŸ™‚ πŸ˜€ Looking forward to reading more of your works dear πŸ™‚
I am glad that my words could keep the art in you alive. πŸ™‚ πŸ˜€

Hope you are having a beautiful day. πŸ™‚

      4. Oh stop it with that ‘dear’, you’re melting my heart! Well I did and didn’t do well in life during that time, some of it might show in my upcoming poems. So sweet of you to check in from time to time even though I wasn’t active! See you in the blogosphere 😊

  43. It rains in my heart! What a beautiful sentiment to describe feelings of sadness, but after a rainfall, surely the sun rises again. And even if it takes its time to shine, appreciate the clouds, the shades of gray, the sensual feeling of dancing in the rain.
What a beautiful website you have created, your poetry is lovely, and from reading the comments you receive, you have touched so many lives, mine included, and I thank you for that ray of sunshine that you are, Nayana. Regards, Monika R.

I am touched that you could feel find some meaning in my work. (That is what I write for πŸ™‚ )
You also have a lovely blog and I could relate to most of your thoughts in the posts that I had read. Really pleased to know you. πŸ™‚

      Warm regards,
