Hi,
I am Nayana Nair. I’m 30. Just a crazy person who has tons of things to talk about, but they are just a bunch of unorganized thoughts (sadly).
I like to talk a lot, to the extent that every conversation of mine turns into a monologue. But I am socially awkward.
So I decided I should start writing a blog rather than tiring myself out by trying to engage someone in a conversation they are not interested in.
I’m passionate about music, psychology and literature. My love for stories translates not only to literature, but also to my love for movies, series, anime (but I watch things randomly, so probably have not seen any “must-watch” ones). I have a moderate interest in science (it is bound to be since I majored in engineering). I love BTS (that’s a K-pop band, really talented and really inspiring, in case you don’t know. ARMY since 2016).
I always wanted to be a writer (and also a teacher). But since I don’t think I have the skills required, this blog is just an attempt of mine at becoming the writer I always wanted to be. Blogging for few years, I have realized I am more into poetry (although, I am not sure that I am good enough to be labelled as a poet). I hope I realize more about myself through writing.
I am not good at introducing myself, at all. So if you want to know more about me, you can go through these posts, which more or less gives a better information about who I am than this About page.

So so glad to meet you. You can’t imagine how glad I am. Yes, I love La Corda, one of my favourites. My favourite character of course is Kahoko..(she motivates me to work hard for things I am passionate about even if I don’t think I have talent for that…like she worked hard for music for the love of it) and I like Azuma too (he he :-))
I have heard songs of EXO too…the ones I have heard were super cool.
As far as BTS is concerned, I am big fan of theirs..so suggesting one song is really tough. But I think you should try “Spring Day” , “I need u” to begin with . “Fire” is also one of their hype song.

I guess even though I write, I can never know if I am actually writing well. I do not think just scribbling a set of words makes it poetry. And I am not sure if my writing has the substance that converts plain words into poem. It may be self-doubt, impostor syndrome or simple lack of confidence, but I feel I am lacking in many ways. But since they are just doubts that eat me away, till they are proven to be truth, I think I can continue to write hoping to become better than I am.

Thank you for a fascinating “About” page, Nayana. You remind me a bit of my older bro whose undergrad degrees were in civil engineering and English Lit. I don’t suppose your engineering degree was in civil, was it?
Also, I’m curious, if you were to teach, what level would you teach at?
Nope, my undergrad degree is in Electronics and Communication Engineering.
English Lit and Civil Engineering sound interesting though 🙂
If I were to teach I would like to teach middle school or high school kids probably. (Maybe because of their impressionable minds and how they are not so much set in their way of thinking that I believe they will be more receptive. Just my opinion though. Not based on any facts.)
If you were to teach, what subjects would you most want to teach
So far as I can see, you’re right about open-mindedness. I think children will swallow anything you tell them. Teens and early twenty-somethings will often evaluate what you tell them. By it’s a real chore to get people my own age to think, Nayana.
I’ve noticed I am just as smart as my young friends, much more experienced, sometimes wiser, but so seldom as open to thinking about new ideas. I don’t do it with ease and enthusiasm like they do. I have to work at it — and often quite hard.
Could be there’s a physiological reason for how minds tend to close with age.
May I ask why you believe you would not be good at teaching?
I think as long as it is for middle or high school syllabus, I can teach almost any subject (except physical education 🙂 ) The thing is when I have to teach someone something, even if it is something I do not necessarily like that much, I am able to understand it enough that I can teach it. I just need a bit of preparation time that’s it. When I myself was in school, there were may subject that I didn’t like much. But now that I’ve grown up, I only have a fondness for those days when I could get to learn more.
I think with age, we get set in our way of living and thinking. Maybe that is how nature works. I think it is same for me, it is difficult to be open-minded, almost something that I have put effort. But I think as long as I have the will to put that effort to understand something or someone, it is fine.
Why I think I would be good at teaching? I have taught my younger sister from when she was small. I have also taught my friends when they wanted help understanding stuff. I enjoyed teaching them and even they were able to understand things they were not able. I have respect for all the subjects, even when I do not like them. I think that is something that we need to pass on anyone we are teaching. To make them understand the importance of what they are learning. That even if they may not have interest in it, it is important.
Do you think you will ever realize your desire to teach professionally? I would hope so.
You make some good points about “getting set in our ways”. I also think that a bit of emotional pain can be felt if and when we change a key belief. Perhaps that’s enough to discourage us.
Your desire to teach resonates with me. Were it not for a few twists of fate, I might be an university professor today. But if so, I would be professor who wanted to teach high school. That is, I would have begun my career wanting to teach uni students, but ended it wanting to teach more open minded HS students.
I do not think I would be able to become a teacher professionally.
I have already done B.Tech which no one actually wants for high school teacher, they mostly want a degree in science or arts etc. The only option I have of teaching is to do my masters and phd in enginnering and teach college students which I am not that enthusiastic about it.
Other than that I am already into some other profession, I am a technical writer for software and all (I know it is weird that being a technical writer, my writing is full of typos and act as if grammar doesn’t exist; that is because in my own writing I do not want to be much conscious of such things. doing that for a living is more than enough . 🙂 )
So yeah teaching is now out of question. I have left my hope on that. I do not have a habit of regretting things much. I try to look forward as much as I can and try to find something else I can be good in. I started writing after my teacher dream became impossible. So yeah, something good came out of that.
So what did you end up becoming instead of being a teacher? And what were these twists in fate that changed your life (only if you want to share, you can always ignore such questions of mine, if I am prying too much)

I really admire your work. Something about what you write and how you write, your words connect with me. I feel an ease, a sort of understanding, being on the same page…that sort of feeling.
Please don’t be doubtful about your work. Do continue to write. I can assure you that your voice and your thoughts, their rawness and sincerity is something that is rare to find. Your work is wonderful.
From my own personal experience, I would suggest writing for yourself. There have been times in the beginning when I blogged and had same questions/doubts as you. Though it is easy to say “to write for oneself” but we all want an acknowledgement in some form, it is difficult to continue without that sometimes. An acknowledgement that our words, the heart we pour into paper matters to someone else. I hope in my own small way I can continue to be something similar to that acknowledgement. I hope you gain some strength by my small support.
